Sally Barker is renowned as the performer who reduced to Sir Tom Jones to tears.
Her flawless performance on television show The Voice last year, in which she took runners-up spot after being mentored by superstar Tom, earned her legions of fans across the country.
Sally is performing at The Fishpond, Matlock Bath, on Friday, October 16, the final date of her autumn tour to promote her new six-track EP Love Rat.
Expect to hear songs from her EP as well as the smash-hit Dear Darlin’ which she sang in the final of The Voice and which was the highest charting single released by the 2014 finalists in the popular television show.
Sally, a young widow, focused her attention on bringing up her two children rather than a music career - and years later it was her sons who persuaded her to enter The Voice.
As a finalist on the programme, she turned down a £75,000 advance and the opportunity to record a covers album for Universal. She chose instead to finish the Into The Well album with folk group The Poozies, with whom she is a seasoned and well-respected performer.
Sally has recorded six solo albums, with song-writing influences from folk, jazz, blues and soul.
Her years of touring have included countless support slots; Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Sir Tom amongst them. She also channels the iconic and departed Sandy Denny in the re-formed legendary folk-rock band Fotheringay.
After her appearance on The Voice, Sally’s back catalogue saw a resurgence of sales. Her album Another Train featured in the official indie charts and ebayers were asking in excess of £100 for second hand Barker CDs !
Whether she is singing to seven million on TV or to 70 people in a club Sally is the consummate professional. It is in live performance that Sally thrives and excels. She has the ability to lift the words off the page as if you were hearing them for the first time, revealing their true meaning.
l Sally’s concert at The Fishpond, Matlock Bath, starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £15.
