Palmer: '˜Certain players' attitude unacceptable'

The Nailers boss was clearly angered by the manner of the defeat in their first home game of the season and didn’t pull any punches in his assesment of the game.

And Palmer said there will be changes for Saturday’s trip to Basford United in the preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup.

“When you consider how we played against Kidsgrove, this result is extremely disappointing,” said Palmer.

“There were certain players whose attitude was unacceptable. These players did not show the respect to the opposition that they deserved. The players need to apply themselves in every game regardless of who the opposition are.”

“In the past two games we have conceded four poor goals so it’s clear that some of the players are not taking on board what me and my staff are trying to get them to do which is very disappointing to me.”

And added: “The players who let me and the rest of the players down will not start for Saturday.

“I will give opportunities who are willing to work hard for the team and will buy into what we are trying to achieve and they will certainly be up for the challenge.

“For Saturday’s game I want the players to realise what went well in the game against Kidsgrove and what went wrong in the Newcastle game and make sure that we implement that into the game.”

Against Kidsgrove, Gerome Palmer played at centre back and played very well, however he did not feature against Newcastle Town, due to the fact he is coming off the back of an operation and is still recovering.

“Gerome played against Kidsgrove off the back of a recent operation,” said Palmer. “He’s not at a stage where he will be able to play twice a week.

“We will assess if he is able to play on Saturday but we do have a number of players who can play this position and do it well.”
